The End of the Supra?
Happy Friday!
This week some news has come to the car community people have been concerned with has been more solidified. The end of the modern made MRK 5 Supra.
Now we are at least receiving both a 2025 and 2026 model version of this vehicle that will likely be it. This has been confirmed via multiple sources including Motor Trend and The Drive.
In a recent article posted by Motor Trend a few pieces of good news were revealed when going over some of the changes to the supra for its last years. The biggest of these being the engine and transmission availability.

When the Supra was reintroduced for the 2020 model year the only engine available was BMW’s 3.0 inline 6 cylinder that was rated for 330hp (though for some reason was rated higher in the z4). In 2021 the 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo that generates around 250ph produced by BMW was added as an available option and this gave Supra owners two added benefits. One was a less expensive Supra option but also meant a lighter Supra option. Yet these seemed to be irrelevant to the Supra customers.
Toyota likely believed by offering a smaller engine would increase the total sales numbers for the vehicle but the numbers show it has done nothing to improve the sales figures for most recent year particularly between 2022 and 2023.
Good car bad showed sales sales figured were 2023 sold only about half as many units of the supra in the US as 2022. You can click here to see that data.
Numbers like this could be why Toyota may wish to discontinue the Supra now that BMW has stated the factory in Austria where these are produced will be shutting down March of 2026.
For the last two years however, enthusiasts will have the best options available for the trims. The 3.0L engine is the only available (and the most frequently taken) and more importantly the manual transmission will be available for the 2025 and onward model years even if that only ends of being a 2025 and 2026.
I will keep everyone here updated as to the state of the Supra in future newsletters. Have a happy 4th of July weekend!
