New Nissan GT-R Replacement

Motor trend just released an article suggesting Nissan is coming out with another sports car. You can read that here.

Using the name of the old car of the Datsun brand, the Silvia, this new model would slit itself between the two current models of sports car the GT-R and the Z. You can see the comparative specs for those cars here:

So it stands the reason this new car would be roughly in the price of $80,000-90,000 and have a power range in the 500 hp.

But one has to ask… is that necessary?

Considering how new the Z is it won’t likely see an update for a few years but wouldn’t it make more sense to say this is going to be the replacement for the GT-R?

As soon as a sports car would leave the competition of the Z it also leaves the competition of cars like the new Mustang and the Toyota supra.

Every car that leaves that price and performance category now competes with cars like the C8 corvette and that is currently where the GT-R has to perform.

This is probably one of the reasons Nissan is discontinuing the GT-R. Cars like the C8 and lower priced/used exotics such as Mclaren 570s, AMG GT are just a better deal on performance and value than the GT-R has been. Especially considering the GT-R’s steep depreciation.

It may be that they want to leave that door open for what may be a R36 GT-R in the future but only time will tell on that front.
