Weird Sales Trend: Mustang vs Wrangler

This isn’t the normal new car talking email, but I found an interesting article on Motortrend regarding the sales of the Mustang and the Wrangler.

You can read in more detail here.

In short, Mustang sales have soared almost 20% YTD over last year and Wrangler sales are struggling to a point that the factory in Toledo has to slow down production as units were piling up on dealer lots.

The Wrangler’s case is interesting because the Jeep lineup in general is now the most expensive on the market with the fewest incentives relative to the rest of the competition.

So likely Jeep will have to eventually lower prices to move enough of this inventory.

The success of the Mustang is pretty explainable.

It is the only V8 muscle car left on the block and sales for the pony car were over 50% increase in August. Which suggests the car is well reviewed by the earlier buyers.

Ironically both of these highly enthusiast vehicles are (as far as I could find) the only 2 vehicles left on the entire automotive market you can buy with a manual transmission equipped with a V8 engine.

We’ll you tomorrow,
